Member States agree: “We have to ensure that the sustainability of our health systems is guaranteed not only financially but also is terms of the values and aims imbedded in the European countries.”

The Czech Presidency supported a more active approach to solving questions relating to the sustainability of the European health systems. The Health Ministers of the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Latvia and Lithuania agreed with the State Secretaries of Portugal and Greece, the European Health Commissioner, Androulla Vassiliou, the Deputy Director of the WHO/Europe, Nata Menabde, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, Aart de Geus, that in times of financial crisis it is even more important to make sure that the basic values and principles of the European health systems are adhered to. Cooperation between the Member States, exchanges of experiences and sharing best practices also play an important role when it comes to finding the right solution to ensure financially sustainable and quality-oriented national health systems characterised by solidarity.

Ministerial Conference on the Financial Sustainability of Health Systems

On 10 – 12 May, Prague will host a ministerial conference organised by the Czech Presidency and the World Health Organisation (WHO). The conference will address the definition and importance of the financial sustainability of health systems, also against the backdrop of population ageing in Europe.

In response to the current threat of the Influenza A (H1N1) infection the Czech Republic as a Presidency country of the Council of the European Union assembled a special meeting of the EPSCO Council (Council of Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs) on Thursday 30 April 2009 in Luxembourg.

A Summary of Basic Measures Taken by the Ministry of Health As Regards the Global Swine Influenza Outbreak, as of 27 April 2009

The Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic takes the current situation concerning the outbreak of swine influenza with great seriousness. Currently, the Czech Republic is one of the countries best-equipped with antiviral drugs. Several basic measures are given below, which are now being implemented by the Ministry. If the situation requires so, the Ministry is prepared to take further steps, taking into account particularly results of the WHO conference and extraordinary EU Council meeting on swine influenza.

Transport

Transport from Prague Ruzyně Airport to Hotel Ambassador

For conference participants the shuttle service to Hotel Ambassador and Hotel Corinthia Towers will be provided. In case of any questions please contact our Presidency Information Desk in arrival hall of Terminal 1 and 2.

For those participants, who will arrive before 18th February, please find below the advice how to get to Hotel Ambassador or Hotel Corinthia Towers by public transport.

 

To Hotel Ambassador:

By bus

a/ Bus No. 119 to the terminal underground station Dejvická leaves every 10 minutes. Bus stop is situated in the front of each terminal. At Dejvická take the green „A“ line and get off at Můstek station. Follow the direction to “Můstek” and get out. You will find yourself at the bottom part of Václavské náměstí (Wenceslas Square). Hotel Ambassador is situated on the left side of the square.

b/ Bus No.100 takes you to the terminal underground station Zličín. Here take the yellow „B“ line to Můstek station. Follow the exit “Můstek”. You will find yourself next to Jungmannovo náměstí (Jungmann Square). Go to the left and you will reach the bottom part of Václavské náměstí (Wenceslas Square). Hotel Ambassador is situated on your lefthand side.

 

To Hotel Corinthia Towers:

By bus

a/ No. 119 leaves every 10 minutes to terminal underground station Dejvická. Take the green „A“ line and change at Muzeum station for red „C“ line. Get off at Vyšehrad station. Hotel is situated 50m from the underground station.

b/ Bus No.100 takes you to the terminal underground station Zličín. From the station take the yellow „B“ line to the station Florenc where you change for red „C“ line. Get off at Vyšehrad. Hotel is situated 50m from the underground station.

By taxi

There are several taxi companies operating at Prague Ruzyně Airport. We recommend you Airport Taxi Company that offers a fixed price for the way to the city centre (ca 500.- CZK) or AAA Taxi (ca 700.-CZK) - depending on the traffic.
